When our oldest daughter got married, I briefly contemplated altering to suit, yet she felt that she wanted her own dress and ultimately bought one.
I had mixed emotions about that. When I think of the work that altering that huge, 30 year-old-dress would have entailed, I'm glad that she bought a new one. When I think of the continuity of families, and the passing-on-down of items from Mom to Daughter, I'm saddened.
