Here's more about Matt & Maria's wedding invitations.

Now, we know that Matt's family lives in Thunder Bay, Ontario and Maria's family comes from Halifax, Nova Scotia. This from page one of invitations.

Therefore, most of the 120 wedding guests will be arriving from out of town and a great number of the guests have never been to Kingston before, so are unfamiliar with the area.

About 9 months before their wedding, Matt and Maria should be sure that all prospective guests are"pre-invited" to their wedding (email, phone call, small note) letting them know that they are getting married in Kingston on June 21, 2008. This way people could save that date on their calendars and have plenty of time to plan for the fact that they would have to travel to attend this wedding.

Matt and Maria are the Planners for their own wedding and are paying for it as well. They have very specific ideas on what they want for this day and need to communicate those thoughts to their guests in the invitation so everyone knows what to expect.

Their invitation content might look something like this (content, not necessarily this style:



Matthew Jones and Maria Madden
invite you to the celebration of their marriage
on Saturday, June 21, 2008
at 1:00 p.m.
to take place at
St. Joseph's Catholic Church
392 Palace Road
Kingston, Ontario

Formal reception begins with champagne and hors d'oeuvres
at 6:00 p.m.
in the Ambassador Ballroom at the Ambassador Hotel
1550 Princess Street
Kingston, Ontario

Dinner and dancing with an open bar will follow
beginning at 7:00 p.m.
RSVP by May 8, 2008
In lieu of wedding gifts, the bride and groom are

Now, Matt and Maria need to give their guests a whole bunch of information to make the guests' attendance at this wedding as easy as possible. In addition to this basic invitation, they should also provide their guests with:

  • a reply card and a stamped, self-addressed envelope

  • maps including where the church is located, where the reception hall is located, and how to get between one and the other

  • hotel information for their out of town guests (Included here will be the names of a number of Kingston hotels, including the Ambassador Hotel where the reception is taking place, the nightly rates for each hotel - keep in mind some hotels give discounts for people attending weddings - and the proximity of each hotel to the church and the reception hall.) Some hotel restaurants also provide breakfast specials - something overnight guests might like to know

  • information about Kingston itself. Keep in mind that most of the guests are from out of town and will need something to do during the 4 to 5 hours between the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the reception. Small guide books are usually available through the Chamber of Commerce in any city centre and the addition of the addresses of some information web sites would also help guests

  • parking availability at the church and reception hall as well as public transit information and local taxi service information

  • Matt and Maria might also want to include an information pamphlet/website address regarding The Partners In Mission Food Bank so guests will know about where their gifts are going

    Guests should have all information they may need at their fingertips when the wedding information arrives so they can make educated decisions about attending the wedding.
